2015 Rosé ~ “The Princess”

2015-Calafia-Princess-Rose

Wine Notes

Vintage:
2015

Appellation:
Mendocino County

Vineyards:
The vineyard is located in Hopland, a small,  quaint town in central Mendocino County. It is owned and farmed by John & Jim Milovina and their sons. This Petite Sirah block is 15 years old and is meticulously farmed and thinned.

Vintage Notes:
The 2015 growing season began with a cool spring, which hampered flowering and berry set resulting in a lower crop throughout the North Coast. Summer was warm, with and early veraison and an early harvest for the third straight year. Climate change in action! Almost all vineyards were picked early in 2015.

Fermentation & Aging:
The grapes were harvested on September 24, about a month earlier than “normal”. The sugar was 27.3° Bris, and with a total acid of 6.1 g/L and a pH of 3.26. After crushing, the juice was left in contact with the skins overnight for color extraction. Then, the juice was drawn off and fermented slowly for two weeks at 50°F in a stainless steel tank to retain freshness and fruit. When dry, the wine was racked to neutral French oak barrels. The wine was bottled in May 2016 and released June 1st.
