2018 The Princess Rosé

Wine Notes

Vintage:
2018

Appellation:
Russian River Valley, Sonoma County

Vineyards:
Our 2018 Rosé is blend of 100% Pinot Noir grapes from a few locations throughout the Russian River Valley. Soils, including the Goldridge series, and microclimates vary, but all add to the nuanced aroma and the taste profile. Several Pinot Noir clones make up the blend, including Dijon 115, Pommard, Swan, Martini and the newer French ENTAV 777 & 677 clones.

Vintage Notes:
Like 2017, the winter of 2018 had adequate rain though somewhat less. The spring was normal which allowed for a good berry set. The summer was warm, not hot which is ideal for Pinot Noir. There were no heat spikes to cook or damage the fruit. Ripening extended into mid-August.

Fermentation & Aging:
The grapes were harvested from August 10th to September 15th. Brix at harvest ranged from 23.8° to 24.6° and the pH’s ranged from 3.1 to 3.5. Total acids were very good with an average of 0.72g/L. After crushing, the juice was left in contact with the skins for 48 hours then drawn off, the saigneé process. Yeast was added and the fermentation was two weeks at 60°F in a stainless steel tanks to retain fruit and freshness. After racking and finishing, the wine was bottled on April 4, 2019.
